It seems that Superintendent Gurban’s insistence on confronting Jason Stone has created a large public relations nightmare for the MPRB. This is unfortunate because in order to balance the budget cuts were made in the public relations area….. ( from the mplsparkwatch.org archives)
To solve that imbalance, the new proposed cuts are:
    1. Eliminate the Jump In brochure and add $10,000 to Recreation budgets to publicize programs (net reduction of $40,000).
    2. Contractual reductions for public relations, archives, historian and youth sports ($28,000).

So they cut $40,000 and $28,000 to balance the budget ($68,000) and now they are going to spend $65,000-$75,000 because the Superintendent makes incredibly bad choices. Superintendent Gurban has proved to be an expensive choice that may also lead to expensive legal liabilities as well if the ACLU does become involved. This seems to be a pattern with Superintendent Gurban. He also set his former employers the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association up for legal troubles with the Minnesota Gambling Control Board ( yes the pulltab fiasco ). His supervisory oversights were blatant if one reads the reports (see this website for the reports)

This choice and many others being made are threatening our system almost as badly as Dutch Elm Disease is threatening our Urban Forest. We need to start thinking about electing some better commissioners to replace the BIG BAD 5….Fine, Dziedzic, Olson, Kummer and Hauser.
